The Greyhound Inn at Corfe is a beautiful 16th century coaching inn nestled in the heart of the village of Corfe. With stunning castle views and an inviting feel, it is no wonder that the Greyhound Inn is so popular with both tourists and locals. I had heard a lot of rave reviews from friends and family so when we were invited along for a meal earlier this week I couldn’t wait to see what delights awaited us.
On arrival we were shown to our table on the terrace by friendly and welcoming staff. The terrace has incredible views of Corfe Castle and it’s beautiful scenery and the area has a bright and airy feel to it, the perfect place to spend a warm and sunny afternoon. I was surprised by the size of both the indoor and outdoor space and loved the options of dining under the canopy, in the sunshine of the gardens or in cosy nooks inside, there is something for everyone, although booking is advised due to popularity.
The menu has a wide variety of dishes, from rustic ciabattas to warming pub classics, there is something for everyone. We started with the olive and bread board to share which was the perfect light starter in the sunshine. The bread was lovely and fresh and the portion size was really generous.
My husband and I have an ongoing joke that I always order better than him, so to avoid him getting the fear of missing out, we decided to share mains. We ordered the Portland Crab ciabatta which was served with a lemon mayonnaise and chunky chips. This was a great size, generously filled and absolutely delicious. I feel like the chips at the Greyhound Inn need a review all of their own because they are 10/10! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, the perfect chip in my opinion.
For our second main we shared the Mussels, these are served in a cream, Purbeck cider, leek and chorizo sauce and were absolutely delicious! I loved that this dish was served with both bread AND chunky chips, double carbs for mopping up that delicious sauce made this dish something we will be heading back for very soon! The portion size was incredibly generous and it was one of the best main courses I have had anywhere in a long time- highly recommend.
Again no one wanted to run the risk of missing out so we shared two desserts. We opted for the mixed berry Eton mess and Vanilla cheesecake, both delicious. The Eton mess was the perfect, light dessert for a hot day. The indulgent creaminess was balanced perfectly with a hint of fresh lemon and perfectly sharp fruit.
The Vanilla cheesecake was surprisingly light and the perfect portion size. Topped with a Biscoff crunch, Biscoff sauce and an amazing salted caramel ice cream. This dessert felt indulgent and sweet without being too heavy.
Our meal at the Greyhound Inn was faultless. From the beautiful setting, attentive and friendly staff and incredible food, our experience had it all and more. The food was beautifully presented and took pub classics that we all know and love up a level to something special. Despite the setting being incredibly busy, the staff didn’t miss a beat, they were attentive to not only us, but to every table and could not do more to meet the customers needs. The food was fabulous and we left feeling full and content… although perhaps not ready to climb the castle ruins in a hurry! A huge thank you to the team at the Greyhound Inn. We will be coming back with friends and family very soon and highly recommend booking to any of my readers.
