Last night myself and my husband went along to The Pavilion Theatre to watch the Rocky Horror show. Now confession time…. we had never seen the film! So we had absolutely no idea what we were going into, apart from The time warp we knew nothing about this cult classic….. and i’m so glad. I am loving going into some of these shows blind, it really adds to the experience.

For those who have not seen the show, the story follows the newly engaged and rather square Brad Majors and Janet Weiss on their way to visit a former college professor. They break down outside creepy castle. They go inside seeking a telephone, but instead come face to face with a cross dressing Dr Frank n Furter, who is in the middle of one of his frenzied experiments. This roller coaster of a show is extremely fast paced, with it’s catchy and unforgettable songs, seamless set changes and dark humour. The show had the audience up on their feet dancing within the first 30 minutes of the show.
For me, narrator Philip Franks was one of the absolute stars of the show. His interactions with the audience were hilarious, witty and had the audience in fits of laughter throughout. Stephen Webb who played the main role of Frank N Furter sang a fantastic rendition of ‘I’m going home’ and despite the light hearted nature of the production actually managed to move the audience in a way that you truly felt as though you had been on a journey with the characters. The make up and costumes of the cast were incredible and the whole production was faultless. I was lucky enough to watch a make up masterclass before the show and it was really interesting to see the stage makeup being done.

Clearly loved by many, the audience contributed a huge part to the atmosphere of the show. It was uplifting to see so many people dressed up, singing their hearts out and dancing away to the time warp. If you are looking for a night of undiluted fun and frolics then the Rocky Horror Show will not disappoint! You can catch Rocky Horror at the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre until Saturday 26th October.
